Encourage kids to draw fireworks of various sizes and colors. Using various hues of the same color in the same firework gives it a lot of great dimension.

Firework Craft Ideas

Cover the page with a sheet of bleeding tissue paper. Then mist with hose or water bottle until very wet.

4th of july crafts

Use a paper towel to remove the wet tissue paper and throw it in the garbage can. (Using a paper towel will help the color to not “bleed” on your hands.) Allow artwork to dry completely.

Independence Day Craft Ideas

HINT 1 – The longer you leave on the paper, the more intense color you will get. Both these fireworks artwork were made with the same color tissue paper, but the one to the left was allowed to bleed color longer.  We suggest leaving the tissue paper on your art project for 10-15 minutes.
HINT 2 – Make sure you smooth the bleeding tissue paper with your finger to leave no air bubbles or you will get the white streaks like the picture above to the left.

Fourth of July Craft

One other method we tried with really cool results was using cut up squares of bleeding tissue paper and scattering them on our project. We drenched with a mister and used a paper towel to scrape off the tissue paper.

This method made a beautiful fireworks in reverse kind of effect. We used tons of colors that mixed together to make some browns. Try using fewer colors in just a certain hue for a more controlled result without as much color mixing.
