If you’ve been studying about the deadliest war in American history from 1861 – 1865, where over 60,000 people gave their lives in the union versus the confederacy, you will love this handy civil war games for kids. This free printable civil war board game is a fun way for grade 3, grade 4, grade 5, grade 6, and junior high in grade 7 and grade 8 to review what they’ve learned in their American History class.

Civil war board game ideas

Print your choice of included game boards in color or black & white on cardstock. If you print the blackline version to save on printer ink costs, kids may enjoy decorating the board game with crayons, markers, and colored pencils.

Finally, either use your own game pieces or print our civil war game pieces included (cut on on the outside rectangle, fold along line, and slip paperclip on the bottom to weight the game piece.)

Free civil war games

Complete instructions for the free civil war game are included, but basically 2-4 people play by reading the card out loud and move as directed on the card. The first player to get to the end wins. In reality, everyone wins because kids will see, hear, and say the information helping improve retention!!
Note: Our family likes to play by picking to be either Union or Confederate. Then for the cards that have a confederate or Union flag, you only get to move if you are on that side of the Civil War.
