  • Hot glue gun (optional but makes construction quick)

The first part is the STEM part. You will design you sponge house. Once you have an idea in mind, I suggest using a sharpie marker to mark where you want to cut.

Use toothpicks and or hot glue gun to hold the walls and roof to your seed house together.

HINT: Make sure not to put hot glue on the outside surface where the seeds will need to send roots down into the spongue holes.

Your house can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. Much of the design complexity will come from the age of your children. Upper elementary age students will creat much more complex houses. Younger students may not even want it to be a 3D house project.

We made a “lip” around the outside to make the seed grow as a barrier. The seed will stay and grow on any relatively flat surface.

Start by watering your spongue house to get it good and wet. Now snooth out your chosen seeds and place on your house.

Spray your grass house several times a day with water bottle. How long it takes to grow will depend on the type of seed and watering, but it should sprout in a couple days.
